Drain & Gulley Cleaning - Greater Belfast Area

Thanks for visiting our page on drain cleaning services that we provide in the Greater Belfast Area. As any home owner will understand, a blocked drain can be a messy and quite a smelly affair. Getting them cleared is never an easy or a pleasant job.

Drains are basically underground pipes that are in place to take water away from houses and buildings. Most residential homes have separate drains for rainwater and wastewater.

It is the owner's responsibility to check their property has the right drain connections. If your property has the wrong drain connections, you could be causing water pollution. There are two main types of drain:

  1. Drains for rain water - these are from roof gutters, and surface and surplus rain water from driveways and roads
  2. Drains for waste water - these are used to take away waste water from toilets, sinks, baths, showers, washing machines and diswashers

Depending on where you live rain water drains may be taken directly to rivers or beaches. Waste water is however sent to a treatment plant. Some homes are on what is called a combined drains system, and most homes built before 1970 will have a combined system. Most properties built since 1970 have separate drains for rainwater and wastewater.

How to Avoid Blocked Drains?

Don’t put cleaning liquids or cooking waste in rainwater drains or road gullies. This includes cooking fat, chemicals, paint, detegrents, bleach or household waste.

Avoid putting household waste down toilets such as nappies, baby wipes, cleaning wipes, sanitary items, razors, syringes etc.

We would also recommend using drain covers, as those help stop leaves, dirt and dust from getting down the drains and blocking them up.

Cleaning out drains is not going to be a pleasant task, and difficult if you don't have the right tools. That is where we can help, so give us a call if you have any drain blockage issues.
